I'd love a suggestion for this. I have a smaller tank now and I want to add some cool different critters to the tank that are reef safe. Currently have a watchman goby with a pistol shrimp. Some sexy shrimp, blood shrimp. A porcelain crab and some of the normal hermits and snails for clean up crew. Idk what other tiny critters I can in there. Also I need to order some corals from you now that I'm growing coraline.

I had to do an emergency 50% water change and my alk went from 8 to 10.56. I got it down to 10 within 4 hours and letting it drop natually, but should i be concerned for my all lps tank, would they be effected the same as SPS and what can i expect for side effects?

Ditch the air stone..it doesn't just add o2 it also adds co2. That will dull kalks effectiveness. If you think about it They use an air pump and bubbler to add co2 when culturing phytoplankton. So your not just adding o2 your adding everything that's in the air including co2.

Oxygen will reduce the effects of kalk

He didn’t say if he has a lot of Fish. Oxygen in carbon dioxide out. Also I use to dose quite a bit of my homemade nopox which overtime dropped my ph from 8.1 to 7.9 because of the acidity

Oxygen will lower the ph of kalkwasser, if its being injected right below the kalk stirrer it will basically make the kalk inert and useless

I would recalibrate the ph probe. It may be off by quite a bit

My alk spike to 13 due to high salinity. To counter the hard water, I dosed seachem asid buffer like mad. Overnight , got it down to 8. However a couple of sps got alkalinity burn. Good luck.

bad batch? Please.. The arrogance in that statement. AFR is as concentrated as it can be, you can not make it more concentrated with dKh. It's an overdose because of poor testing. Simple.

There is a great talking point from a BRS video about “bad batches”. Batches are not done by the bottle or container, they are done by the pallets at factories. So if there was a bad batch of something it wouldn’t be isolated to your tank, it would be a problem across hundreds or even thousands of tanks. Think the tropic marin salt issue in the past. It is more likely your tank is having an issue and you’re associating it with the last thing you did.

I mess around with the microscope every once in a while and always see Dino’s from a sample from the sand bed. But I also have seen copepods on a microscopic level with a belly full of them. A well balanced system keeps them at bay! I feed heavy as well.
